by Ray Poirier | If anyone knows the operation of the Tropicana Hotel/Casino in Atlantic City, it’s longtime gaming executive Dennis Gomes. He’s been there and he’s done that, serving as the CEO when the company was under different ownership.
Now he has joined Cordish Co. in a $700 million bid to acquire the troubled facility which is being sold under orders of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. The property’s license holder, Columbia Sussex Corp. (CKNN), was forced out for mismanagement and retired jurist Gary Stein was named to head a group of trustees ordered to find a buyer.
Cordish, owner of The Walk, a 100-store outlet mall on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, has built tribal casinos in Florida.
