Gaming company faces two major battles

by Ray Poirier | Penn National Gaming Inc. (PENN) has become embroiled in two major political battles that will be decided on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

In Maine, where the company’s Hollywood Casino has been operating as a monopoly at its Bangor Racetrack facility, Olympia Gaming, headed by longtime Las Vegas casino executive Dean Harrold, is seeking approval for a casino in the western part of the state.

Although a final site for the proposed casino hasn’t yet been announced, it is expected to be in either Rumford or Oxford.

On a second front, Penn National Gaming is attempting to defeat the efforts of Lakes Entertainment Inc. (LACO) to locate Ohio’s only casino in the southwestern part of the state.

Such a new gaming facility would attract fans away from Penn National’s Argosy Casino in Indiana.
