Had the New Orleans Saints won the Monday night football game, there would have been six entrants one shy of taking the $30,000 pot for the weekly Lucky’s NFL Progressive with 13-1 marks. So 12-2 eases the pain somewhat and ups the ante at Lucky’s to a record $36,000 for a weekly Nevada football contest.

The six near misses in the contest were spread out across the state. Two were in Primm and one each at Reno (Grand Sierra), Las Vegas (Terrible’s), Elko (Red Lion) and Pahrump (Terrible’s). The participant who entered the contest in Pahrump would have been 13-0 entering the Monday night game had the Houston Texans not blown a 17-point lead to Indianapolis in the final three minutes.

"We’ve had thousands enter our contest and now with it hitting $36,000, we expect a lot of interest this week," said Dan Shapiro, director of marketing for Lucky’s Race and Sports Book a division of Brandyline Bookmaking LLC.

The weekly contest is free of charge and anyone interesting in participating locally can find Lucky’s sites at the Plaza downtown and Terrible’s locales. This is the fifth consecutive rollover week for the Lucky’s Progressive since it began back on Sept. 7 with a $6,000 pot. The contest involves choosing the correct team straight up for all the NFL games, including Monday night.

As for the other five players that were 12-1 heading to the Vikings-Saints game last night, three lost on San Diego and two were eliminated when Jacksonville fell to Pittsburgh.
