Carol, you know that I do not normally recommend poker books. However, I have noticed in the past few weeks that you have been reading some of the books talking about teaching the game.

You know my philosophy on the reading of poker books! Those that can do it, those that cannot talk and write about it!

I will of course excuse present company and a few folks that have a bully pulpit and are bigger than me. I am never negative about anything that my wife wishes to do for many, many reasons. The first of those reasons is not that you hold the purse strings and direct all traffic at and near our house!

But I am going to recommend a book! Yes it is a poker book entitled "The Wacky Side of Poker," by Ralph E. Wheeler. The book may be out of print now, but email me at [email protected] and I will tell you where you may get a copy.

Here is part of the foreword written by my friend of many years, Tom McEvoy, the 1983 winner of the World Series of Poker.

"Ralph E. Wheeler is a very funny guy." McEvoy says. He goes on to say that "Ralph knows how to poke fun at poker and its kaleidoscope of players without their feeling any pain – and that’s a rare talent. His incredible collection of quotations from the famous, the not-so-famous, professional and recreational players alike hit home with more than a grain of truth."

Tom mentions that "I know that you’ll enjoy this book more and more as the years go by. In fact, I’ll even give you Okie Johnny Hale’s famous (Oklahoma Guarantee) on enjoyment. That means if OK-J tells you it’s gonna rain, set out your tubs ‘cause you’re gonna catch some water!"

Tom concludes his foreword to the Wacky World of Poker by saying, "So open the pages, set out a big tub, and catch a hundred laughs as you traverse the wacky side of poker."

I am going to loan my wife an autographed copy to read, but it is a treasure and I want it back!

OK-J Poker Tip

Comes to us this week from the Wacky World of Poker with a quotation from the world famous writer T. Nolan Dalla!

"Poker is like sailing, when the sea is calm. Sails can be extended in preparation for the gusts of wind that will ensure profitable poker. When waters are choppy and the weather is suspect, caution must be exercised. And sailing and poker alike, there are days when conditions are so rough that it is best to be patient."

Thanks Nolan. I felt a strong gust of the poker winds so I set sail over to the Orleans to test the waters! I did play in the Saturday night No Limit poker tournament and won a few hundred dollars that I took home to my wife.

Upon driving home, I looked back at the neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip reflecting a red glow in the night sky. It was the Excalibur lighthouse light reaching into the heavens!

I remember the old sailor quote, "Red sails in the morning a sailor’s warning. Red sails at night, a sailor’s delight.

Until next time remember to Stay Lucky!
