Handicapping hockey can be a tricky thing because the majority of all bettors have no positive confirmation of the starting goalies until near game time.

One way to protect yourself from this potential scenario is to know which teams have solid backup goalies who can get enough playing time to want to be in goal when called upon.

Early in the season, the Rangers (Lundqvist-Valiquette), Canadiens (Price-Halak) Sabres (Miller-Lalime), Blackhawks (Huet-Khabibulin) and Red Wings (Osgood-Conklin) seem to be those types of teams.

Let’s get out of the crease and into the rotation…

Wednesday, Oct. 29

Maple Leafs at Devils: Satan’s Skaters raked the Leafs twice LY (3-2) in Newark. Brodeur hotter than Bullhead City to start the year. DEVILS, UNDER.

Wild at Stars: Minnesota’s Backstrom brilliant LW (3-0) but South Stars 2-0 vs. Wild LY in Big D (11-4 goals). STARS, UNDER.

Wings at Ducks: Anaheim started 2-5 and haven’t been clicking. Champs a formidable foe away from The Joe. RED WINGS.

Megapucks: With three totals likely at 5, thinking less than 15 goals scored – like 13 – in tonight’s troika. UNDER.

Thursday, Oct. 30

Jackets at Avs: Despite plethora of puck tonight, only like this one matchup, but like it a lot. Avs an incredible 13-1-0-0 in Denver vs Jackets – second best home winning percentage since 2000 – making this pick pick itself. AVS. (BE$T BET$)

Friday, Oct. 31

Dracula at Frankenstein: A Happy Halloween hockeyheads! We respect Drac’s blood-sucking abilities, but the big guy’s size is too much for this Transylvanian. FRANKENSTEIN.

Saturday, Nov. 1

Thrashers at Devils: As Marty Brodeur goes, so goes NJ and it’s gone pretty good defensively at least. Home team. DEVILS.

Canadiens at Islanders: Not impressed with NYI and Les Habs are one of those clubs having two decent netminders. CANADIENS.

Panthers at Predators: No love for either team in their hometowns. Predators do play much better in Opryland. PREDATORS.

Wild at Coyotes: Word is Gaborik may be traded, but Wild got off to nice start away from Princeville and after Stars game, Minny will think this is one they can win. WILD.

Sunday, Nov. 2

Leafs at Hurricanes: Do you seriously believe a leaf could withstand a hurricane? I highly doubt it. It would probably get blown away. HURRICANES.
