No mas picking unders for now – just too many ways to lose. Power plays. 5 on 3’s. Swiss-cheese-like goalies. Penalty shots. 2-2 scores. That obligatory goal added for OT wins (3-2 final in a real 2-2 game). And those dreaded empty net goals. Mercy.

And no more Megapucks picks either. My first one ever came last week with the cutesy logic "…thinking less than 15 goals scored – around 13 – in tonight’s troika." Good work genius. There were 26 goals Wednesday. And my picks went 1-5. Ouch.

Time to eat a big piece of humble pie and bet-bet-bet.

Tuesday, Nov. 4

Islanders at Rangers: Blueshirts won 4-2 in skate last Monday and with starting goalie DiPietro out and Lundqvist or Valiquette in net at home, logic says lay the lumber. RANGERS.

Wild at Sharks: SJ started 6-0-0 (23-11 goals) in Shark Tank while Wild on third leg of western road swing. SHARKS.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

Lightning at Devils: Lightning grounded to start season and with the third least goals (25) finding the back of the net vs. Brodeur may prove difficult. DEVILS.

Thursday, Nov. 6

Coyotes at Canucks: Teams went 1-1 on home and enemy ice LY in games averaging 3.5 goals. Vancouver good at protecting its home tundra. CANUCKS.

Blues at Sharks: St. Louis netminder Legace fell and injured himself as VP candidate Palin dropped the first puck last week. The toothy-ones 4-0 vs. Blues LY, outscoring them, 11-2 (2 SO’s). SHARKS. (BE$T BET$)

Friday, Nov. 7

Thrashers at Sabres: Buffalo simply better. SABRES.

Saturday, Nov. 8

Lightning at Flyers: Flyers looked good shutting out Atlanta. TB similar stock. FLYERS.

Devils at Red Wings: Hossa starting to click and Zetterberg(pictured at the right) a stud – Devils shaky vs. Leafs LW in loss. RED WINGS

Sunday, Nov. 9

Thrashers at Canes: Carolina boasts talented goalie duo in Ward (3.29 GAA) and Leighton (2.29) and the Canes went 6-2 against Atlanta LY, outscoring them 36-24. HURRICANES.

Panthers at Ducks: The travel distance between Miami and LA: 2,348 miles. Too far. And Anaheim’s been hot after a bad start. DUCKS.

Monday, Nov. 10

Lightning at Capitals: Smith-Kolzig nice net pair but Ovechkin and Semin strong in DC (3-0-1). CAPITALS.
