CityCenter benefits from soft labor market

CityCenter President Bobby Baldwin says the massive development found an element of good luck in the bad luck that has forced some casino companies, including MGM Mirage, to delay capital spending.

"When construction began at CityCenter," he said, "the presence of many large projects being built concurrently created a scarcity of labor in specific trades. The current softer market conditions have increased the supply of construction workers available to work on CityCenter. This will enable us to minimize the amount of overtime work."

Baldwin said there are currently 12 large tower cranes on the site and approximately 8,000 construction workers actively involved in the building. Peak construction activity will probably be reached by December with 9,000 workers on the site.

The company expects to begin taking applications in December for the 12,000 jobs to be filled at CityCenter.
