Strange bedfellows in Missouri gaming initiative

There is more to some gaming opposition than meets the eye.

One of the closely watched casino-related propositions going before voters this week is the Missouri initiative that if successful would remove the controversial $500 loss limit that has been a drag on business there.

One of the contributors to the opposition was the Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Illinois. The owners of the Queen donated $150,000 to opposition that is battling the proposition to remove the loss limit.

They were candid enough to admit that one of the big reasons for crossing the river to gamble at the Queen was that there is no loss limit in Illinois. Take away the loss limit and a lot of gamblers will be playing closer to home at casinos in the St. Louis area.
