by Ray Poirier | Restaurateur Charlie Sarkis, who has watched his Wonderland dog track in Revere, Massachusetts, fall from a major sporting venue to a place where old timers congregate to exchange stories of the past, has shown that he is a gambler at heart.
Last week, he anted up $752,301 in cash to the City of Revere to pay two years of back taxes and utility bills. Now he can apply for an operating license for 2009.
But, the story doesn’t end there. On Election Day, the voters of Massachusetts will be asked whether greyhound racing should be banned.
Maybe Sarkis has seen something in the polls to encourage him to make his big bet.
