Mavericks +4 at Spurs (187½)
You can make a case early on of two teams showing their age. Dallas comes off a loss to Cleveland, a team it has dominated in recent years. San Antonio lost its opening game for the first time in nearly two decades and stands 0-2 entering tonight’s matchup. Tim Duncan has had to carry the scoring load with Manu Ginobili sidelined several more months with that same bad ankle which hampered him during last year’s playoffs and at the Summer Olympics for Argentina.
The Mavericks have been plagued by poor shooting thus far, hitting just 25 percent from 3-point land. Jason Kidd is on the downside of his fine career and there is still no inside presence on defense to make life easier for Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard. The pressure is on San Antonio to get in the win column and having the Mavs in town on the back end of consecutive games is a plus. Maybe the slow start is due to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wearing the beard Phil Jackson gave up. SPURS.
