Northern Illinois at Ball State -10

This is a key match-up in the Middle America Conference (MAC), with both teams having aspirations of making it to the title game. Ball State is deservedly the favorite since they’ve undefeated this season (8-0) and nationally ranked. However, their schedule hasn’t been impressive – it includes non-conference wins over Northeastern (Division 1AA) and Navy, with a victory over Big 10 doormat Indiana its biggest claim to fame. In MAC play, they’re 4-0, but begin the meat of their schedule tonight with Northern Illinois, followed by Miami, Central Michigan and Western Michigan. Northern Illinois has definitely played the tougher schedule, which includes close losses to Minnesota and Tennessee. Northern Illinois’ only blemish in MAC play was a field goal loss to Western Michigan, a solid contender in the West Division. Because they’ve played such a tougher schedule and field one of the best defenses in the conference, Northern Illinois should be in this one all the way with a chance to steal it in the fourth quarter. Northern Illinois +10.
