Well, a losing week just had to happen. But if the worst is 7-8 then we’ll live a few more weeks.

Not so with Penn State, who blew any chance for a BCS title shot with a last-second loss at Iowa. But as JoePa said later, "whaddya gonna do."

N’western +2½ at Michigan: Last week was a throwback to when Michigan was whipping people and Northwestern was getting bombed. This will be nice practice for Ohio State. MICHIGAN.

Minnesota +14 at Wisconsin: The Badgers have gotten their second wind. Minnesota is coming back to earth after soft early schedule. WISCONSIN.

Vanderbilt +4 at Kentucky: The Vandy defense came apart against Florida and now runs into a Kentucky offense that’s now rolling. KENTUCKY.

Notre Dame -3½ at Navy: Even though the Irish have dropped two straight, this line has value. Navy won last year, but is 1-12 in the last 13 meetings. NOTRE DAME.

Troy +19½ at LSU: Troy has made a living of covering against major college teams. No way LSU gets up for this after tough beat against Alabama. TROY.

East Carolina +2 at So. Miss: The Pirates scored 13 against Central Florida and Southern Miss scored 17. Doesn’t sound like an over to me. UNDER.

Texas -13½ at Kansas: All the Longhorns can do is just beat their opponents to a pulp and hope for the best. TEXAS.

Missouri -26½ at Iowa State: Remember, the Tigers had to fight and claw for a win at Baylor. The pesky Cyclones could stay within the high number. IOWA ST.

Cal +3 at Oregon St: The Bears were killed at USC with mistakes and bad calls. I still can’t see the illegal man downfield. Going to Corvallis in November isn’t good even in high spirits. OREGON ST.

BYU -4 at Air Force: The Cougars didn’t make any friends by only beating San Diego State by 29. Air Force is 8-2 and just a very solid football team. AIR FORCE.

San Jose St +14½ at Nevada: Colin Kaepernick runs wild against the Spartans. NEVADA.

USC -22½ at Stanford: The Trojans well remember losing as a 40-point favorite to Stanford. The Cardinal gave Oregon fits last week and wish to show that last year wasn’t a fluke. STANFORD.

Rutgers +7½ at South Florida: The Scarlet Knights are on the rise and the Bulls are 2-6 against the number. RUTGERS.

La-Monroe +21½ at Ole Miss: Why are the Rebels playing this game now? Monroe has been competitive in the Sun Belt and Ole Miss plays a lot of close games. LA-MONROE.

UNC -2½ at Maryland: A win here could get the Heels into the ACC title game. N. CAROLINA.

NFL

Jets +3½ at Patriots: Less Favre and more Thomas Jones is working for the Jets, who are 5-1 in their last 6. Minus Brady, Mangenius works his Thursday revenge. JETS.

Ravens +6½ at Giants: Baltimore has won three straight on the road. Giants coming off hard-fought win at Philly. RAVENS.

Broncos +5½ at Falcons: The public is love with the Falcons, but this line is inflated. Plus Broncos have had extra rest. BRONCOS.

Eagles -9 at Bengals: I’ll say this for Cincy, the guys haven’t quit. Philly put a lot into that Giants game. BENGALS.

Titans -3 at Jaguars: The Jags may finally be waking up after their rout of Detroit. Titans still perfect, but can fall here. TITANS.

Browns +5½ at Bills: Cleveland is better to bet as an underdog. Both teams struggling, but Brady Quinn looked good for Cleveland in the loss to Denver. BROWNS.
