Not going all-in saved disaster for me

Getting Rich with Saber by Richard Saber |

There one thing I learned this past week, but it was something that I learned years ago when first heading out West.

Just one of my dear departed father’s main pieces of advice was never go all-in on a game or fall in love with a horse. It can only lead to real disaster and as usual "Broadway Bennie" was right.

Oklahoma State was a no show and my hard earned cash went right down the drain. The only good thing was after watching the first half, I did get a piece of my money back on the second half and used that to bet on the Chiefs the next day.

Remember when someone tells you how much they love a game, my suggestion is if you like the same game make a very small wager or just pass. If someone tells you they love a horse, bet against that horse and you will have a good chance at cashing a ticket.

As the college football season winds down and heads into the bowls, there are several games that I will be making small wagers on this week. I will also be putting in some $5 parlay and teaser cards along with making my usual $2 10-teamer just in case I am walking around lucky.

The good thing is that I love no team this week or in any future weeks and I will never love a horse.

College Football

Friday, Nov. 14

Cincinnati -3 at Louisville: Bearcats playing super since blowout loss to UConn and they catch a team that looks to have packed it in, Louisville off losses to Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Heck, they didn’t even show up last week against the Panthers. CINCINNATI.

Sat., Nov. 15

Minnesota +14 at Wisconsin: The Gophers may be another team that is finished after back-to-back losses. They now must travel to play Wisconsin who is looking for win No. 6. This could be blowout time. WISCONSIN.

Utah St +12½ at Louisiana Tech: Utah State has been playing much better of late, but catches a team here with a top-notch defense. Look for the Bulldogs to fully shut down the Aggies offense and win very handily by three touchdowns. LOUISIANA TECH.

BYU -4 at Air Force: Overrated Cougars have gone 2-7 ATS so far this season and have not covered in their last six games. The stingy Falcons defense will keep the game close and give them a shot for their first series win since 2003. AIR FORCE.

New Mexico St +15 at Fresno St: The host Bulldogs are 1-8 ATS so far this year and 0-8 ATS in their last eight games. And they are a 15-point favorite? Aggies stayed close last year when getting 13. This one is a must take. N. MEXICO ST.

USC -22 at Stanford: Trojans giving up zip. The only team to score more than a TD was Oregon State. This game looks like a big-time under and there will be a total as VERSUS is televising the game. UNDER.

Sunday, Nov. 16

Raiders +11 at Dolphins: Just another double-digit chalk that we will fade. The Fish could not cover 9 last week against the Seahawks. Look for the Raiders defense to keep this one close. RAIDERS.

Ravens +5 at Giants: The G-Men are playing like Super Bowl champs, but the Ravens have found an offense to go along with their mighty defense. RAVENS.

Lions +14 at Panthers: This one is ugly, but must side with the winless Lions getting the two TD’s. LIONS.

FLASH: Steubenville won its second playoff game last week, defeating a very tough Mooney team 28-14.

Just another note, this year the Big Red became just the 28th high school program in U.S. history to reach 700 wins and they are still counting.
