UNC BEST IN HOOPS, BUT WATCH GEORGETOWN

College basketball actually began last night with the 2K Hoops Classic hosted by Duke. The Blue Devils again figure to be among the top teams in the country, but their neighbor North Carolina is the consensus No. 1.

"Without a doubt, North Carolina is loaded and the team to beat this season," said Kenny White, head linesmaker for Las Vegas Sports Consultants. "I think the Big East will be the best league with Georgetown (currently 25-1 at the Hilton) as a good futures investment."

White sees Oklahoma as the best in the Big 12, UCLA tops in the Pac-10 and UNLV improved from last year. "I would have UNLV +13 vs North Carolina on a neutral court," White said. Under the radar: Portland State, Va Commonwealth.

TUESDAYS BELONG TO GT’S SABER

We’ve sung the praises of what GT columnist Richard Saber has done with his "2 For Tuesday" weekly selections, but it’s now November and he’s seriously threatening unchartered territory at 70 percent accuracy at 78-38 (67.2%).

And, he’s giving all these winners for nothing! Free to you and me. Even he can’t understand it. Nevertheless, Saber has a streak of 10 straight wins. In fact, he went through the entire month of October without a loss.

We’re proud to brag about Richie because his success started back in January and just continued. Even Mark Mayer’s 69-51 (nearly 58 percent winners) while good, pales by comparison.

For Richard’s latest Tuesday gems, see page 14. Oh, and check Mark’s too.
