NFL officials make horse stewards look good

Getting Rich with Saber by Richard Saber |

last week

Last Sunday as I was betting the ponies and taking in all the NFL games on TV it just amazes me that the stewards in horse racing are so bad but the NFL officials make them look great.

The officials in the NFL are the worst, or are they? At least with the replay they can get half the calls correct. Without it they could control the game even more than they already do.

I could get into several real bad calls, but if you had a bet on the Steelers this past Sunday minus the points all I can say is that you got robbed and I will leave it at that.

As we wind down the college football season and the big turkey day weekend next week let’s see if we can get back on track.

Army +17 at Rutgers: The Army has covered seven straight games, but I will try and stop that streak as Rutgers has covered six in a row. Their offense has really come together, scoring 54 on Pitt, 35 on Syracuse and 49 on South Florida. A win over Army and one next week against fading Louisville will give the Scarlet Knights a bowl bid. RUTGERS.

Tennessee +3 at Vanderbilt: The Vols have packed it in, scoring a total of 22 points in their last three games. Vandy is coming off a huge win at Kentucky and is now bowl eligible for the first time in eons. Vandy will be sky-high for this game. VANDY.

Marshall +8 at Rice: The not so Thundering Herd have very little offense and come off a humiliating loss at home to UCF. They now must travel to Texas and meet an offense-crazy Rice. RICE.

Texas Tech +6½ at Oklahoma: The Game of the Week and yes I will try and beat the Red Raiders just one more time. I’ll just go a little in, not all the way. Sooners will have to play their best defense in order to win. We know they can score, but have been lacking on the other side of the ball. They will have the revenge factor in their corner, having lost 34-27 last year. OKLAHOMA.

Mississippi +6 at LSU: Ole Miss edged Florida and just did miss beating No. 1 Alabama, losing 24-20. The Rebels have won three straight and if able to take their last two will be sitting on an eight-win season plus a real nice bowl game. LSU was life and death to beat Troy last week and will be in a dogfight. Points look great in this rivalry game. MISSISSIPPI.

Bengals +10 at Steelers; (Thursday) Cincy played the Eagles to a 13-13 overtime tie and just did miss a last second field goal for the win. The Steelers just can not be favored over anyone by more than one TD. With big revenge on their mind, look for the Bengals to stay close. BENGALS.

Jets +6 at Titans: Undefeated Titans on brink of history, but if anyone can dampen the excitement in Tennessee it’s Brett Favre. He has officially taken over for the rampaging Jets. A win here and the Jets could be on their way to a history making Super Bowl with Brett becoming the hometown favorite and Joe Namath just a guy from the past. JETS.

Bucs -8 at Lions: I’m out of words, but not prayers. LIONS.

FLASH: Steubenville scored another big Ohio high school playoff win beating very tough Warren Perry 35-17. The Big Red are just two wins away from a perfect 15-0 season and a state championship.
