Station Casinos 2008 edition of the NFL Pro Football Last Man Standing elimination contest went 11 weeks before just one person remained among the 4,229 entries.

A Henderson resident (name withheld by the winner) took the $86,475 prize money by picking winners for 11 consecutive weeks on an entry to become the second straight Sunset Station player to capture the contest.

The contest allowed for each player to have a maximum of five entries (buy four get one free) at $25 each. Each week a player picks one game per entry against the point spread. This year’s champ made it to the final 50 last year before bowing out after six weeks.

This season the champion went on a winning streak during the NFL each week, culminating in taking the grand prize.

"We had a couple easy games during that seven-game stretch," the champion said. "The last two weeks, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Week 10 we had to sweat out the entire Carolina-Oakland game and pray for (Sebastian) Janikowski to miss a field goal in the closing seconds. In the final week I had Tampa against the Vikings and would have lost if Minnesota didn’t fumble a late kickoff return."

The Last Man Standing elimination contest format has been used at Station Casinos and Fiesta properties in a variety of contests ranging from pro football, college football, horse racing, auto racing, and college basketball over the last five years.

The next contest is set to tip off with the College Basketball tourney in March 2009.
