Black Gaming says it plans to suspend casino operations at one of its Mesquite resorts and lay off 500 workers Friday.
Black Gaming said in a filing this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the layoffs at the Oasis Resort Casino Golf and Spa are temporary and the result of projected fourth-quarter results falling short of management's expectations.
Black Gaming says the layoffs represent about 25 percent of the company's 2,000 employees. The company says other parts of the Oasis, including an RV park, golf course, gun club and time share facilities, will remain open, along with two other Mesquite properties.
Last week, Station Casinos in Las Vegas announced it would no longer match employees' contributions for their retirement plans.
