Aristocrat Technologies, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of one of the world’s largest slot manufacturers, announced it has received final regulatory approval from Nevada for its Penguin Pays video slot game.

"This approval marks one of the most highly significant milestones for the company," stated Des Randall, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Aristocrat worldwide. "We are now in all major gaming markets in the world and will be able to significantly expand our presence in the U.S. where, even before this, we had been recognized as pioneering the industry’s move to video games.

"In total, Nevada represents not only a huge market of casinos," Randall continued, "but also a window to the headquarters of the world’s largest gaming operators. This approval and our previously announced acquisition of Casino Data Systems empowers us to build upon our position as the world leader in video gaming."

The Nevada gaming approval followed a successful field trial at Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson. According to Richard Fitzhugh, Vice President of Slot Operations for Station Casinos, Inc., the performance of the Penguin Pays games over the length of the field trial at Sunset Station resulted in their decision to purchase the games for Stations.

"The player response was very positive," said Fitzhugh. "We were able to report that these games continued to perform at a level well above our floor standard."

As with other Aristocrat games, the Penguin Pays game allows for a variety of exciting ways to earn credits. The game is based on the popular multi-line (9-line) video reel format with a maximum play of 90 coins. It is one of Aristocrat’s most successful games in other gaming markets and features much of the company’s latest video technology for enhanced player entertainment.

The Penguin Pays game, as the name connotes, is themed around the animation of an appealing penguin and other arctic symbols. During a special bonus feature, high tech graphics depict the penguin first appearing in the upper left position on the reels and then "skating" to all locations on the screen. During this part of the game, the penguin substitutes for all symbols except the "whale" symbols. In addition to this penguin bonus feature, players can win with an "iceberg," which is "wild" and substitutes for other symbols, or with scattered "whale" symbols on adjacent reels.
