With just three games left in the NFL season you would think the talk in Pittsburgh would be about the playoffs and a possible shot at another Super Bowl.

Not so!

It’s about their ex-beloved Super Bowl winning HC Bill Cowher heading to Cleveland – they are not very happy. Some are even shocked. The Steelers are sitting pretty good at 10-3, but will have to play back-to-back road games, at the rejuvenated Ravens this week followed by the game at Tennessee.

After those two huge games, Pittsburgh gets the Browns at home. If the Steelers need the game in any way shape or form look for a bloodbath as a once-loved Cowher is now a despised traitor!

The BCS Championship game on Thursday, Jan. 8 between Florida and Oklahoma on paper looks like one titanic struggle and one of the best matchups in years especially if you like a lot of scoring. The opening line is Florida -3 with the total 72.

The writing is on the wall if you are a sports book manager. Every parlay will have either Florida or Oklahoma with the over. If this game goes over the total there will be little or no way the books win on this game.

Last week in my column, I passed along some valuable help to the books to put Oklahoma up at -17 and take all the dog money possible. If they don’t get enough at +17 just move the line to 17½. I suggest the same strategy for Oklahoma-Florida. Make the total 73½ and take all the under money you can until they run out.

Don’t move the line since it will be at 75 by game time or higher. It is very tough nowadays to be a sports book director or manager as most just put up the line and move when you get a bet or look at the screen. They just move the number to stay in tune with the rest of the town.

This is one of those situations where you need to have some big you know what and take a stand. Or, just wait and put the total up the day of the game after it has moved five points. That will cut their jeopardy.

There are 1,000 college bowl games this year and always there seems to be one more. The bowls at one time were a reward for a great season. Now they are all about the almighty dollar and not a reward for good play. However, for betting purposes bring them on.

We will be making selections on a weekly basis, so now let’s move forward to some NFL plays for this week:

Redskins -5½ at Bengals: Taking the Skins last week was one of my big mistakes. Their offense has gone south for the remainder of the season. It’s now eight straight under games. This will make 9 as Cincy has little or no offense. UNDER.

Seahawks -3 at Rams: Seattle sees the light at the end of the tunnel after a strong showing in a loss to New England. The Rams just see the tunnel. SEAHAWKS.

Bills +6½ at Jets: After a quick start the Bills have folded along with their offense. Buffalo managed just a field goal in each of their last two games including the dome at Toronto. Jets have lost two straight since knocking off the Titans, but will wake up in this perfect spot. JETS.

Steelers +2 at Ravens: Just a perfect spot for the Ravens as they catch Pittsburgh off two huge games with the Patriots and the Cowboys. The Ravens have won and covered their last three games and need a win here to keep pace with the Steelers. RAVENS / UNDER (3 STAR-PLAY).
