Take a hike! So, I did

Diamond's Gems by Sid Diamond |

A few months ago I concluded that I wasn’t getting enough exercise as my calorie intake was somewhat higher than the burning up of my body fat. Not being a gym-rat or workout guy I decided to try and walk it off.

A strange decision for me as I always believed that walkers were nerds and that walking is a poor man’s substitute for a tough workout such as running the bases or playing racquetball, not to mention that it just wasn’t macho.

At any rate I tried walking by going about half a mile in my neighborhood and found it pretty satisfying. I continued to increase my distance as much as I could and I am now proud to say that I am currently up to almost 2 miles a day.

Unbelievably, I look forward to my trips and I’ve gotten pretty good results as my weight has slowly gone down and my body appreciates my efforts. So take it from this nerd, "try it, you’ll like it." Hey, Mikey, he likes it!

This week in the colleges I have absolutely no selections whatsoever. I can’t even find a line for the games. I told you I was a nerd!

Anyway, here are six pro games for you – three dogs and three favorites.

First the pooches:

San Francisco vs. Miami: Since the coaching change the 49ers have been much better on offense and defense, but most of all it’s been the intensity. San Francisco +6½

Seattle at St. Louis: Who is even more hapless than the Rams? The Seahawks. Rams +3.

Houston vs. Tennessee: Titans have already clinched their position, and likely won’t play full throttle. The Texans, who aren’t bad, get 3½, and may win straight up. Texans +3½.

Now the chalk:

Bills at Jets: The Jets have lost two in a row, and Brett will give them a proper tongue lashing, as the division race is up for grabs. Jets -6½.

Chargers at Kansas City: Are ripe for a blowout. I admit the Chargers are playing much better, but the same can be said about the Chargers. Even L.T. is smiling, and they got an extra three days rest. Chargers -3½.

New England at Oakland should get the job done. The Pats will stay on the West Coast this week, so as to stay fresh off of their 24-21 victory over the hapless Seahawks (I are think the adjective "hapless" could be interchangeable with the Raider Nation). Patriots -7.

I can’t wait for Oklahoma vs. Florida, as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams meet for all the marbles. Bet the Sooners early, as their price figures to rise.

Have a great week!
