Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock began singing in local Australia coffeehouses, sometimes for their meals. Their tunes were soft, mellow love songs which were contrary to "hard rock" which was popular then. Graham and Russell eventually formed their own group, dubbing it "Air Supply," a name that Graham says "came to him in a dream…on a billboard." It not only was a breath of fresh air, it was also a hit!

In 1975, Rod Stewart requested that Graham and Russell join him on a tour in the United States and Canada. This opportunity would provide the stepping stones that would see Air Supply begin to reach their famous status in America.
