The Sharks (23-3-2), Red Wings (19-4-4) and Bruins (19-5-4) have quietly combined to go 61-22 (73.4%) to start the season out and with hockey being a money line sport, that means three out of every four bets on these teams so far has resulted in a winner. There certainly are no Gremlins or Edsels in this tight-skating group.

For the Bruins this overwhelming degree of success is somewhat newfound, for the champion Red Wings, the prosperity is expected but for the Sharks, the big question is can this franchise finally follow through with their phenomenal record and bring their first-ever Stanley Cup to the Shark Tank? Only time will tell.

Tuesday, Dec. 16

Flames at Blues: Fireboys 12-1-1 L14 (52-28 goals) vs. BB King’s favorite team. Calgary second-best in West on the penalty kill (84.7%). FLAMES.

Hawks at Oilers: Edmonton 2-0 at home (7-3 goals) vs. Chicago last season. Team has still played twice as many road (18) as home games (9). OILERS.

Wednesday, Dec. 17

Sharks at Jackets: San Jose 3-1 vs. Blue Bees last season (Games averaged 4.0 GPG) and 2-0 in 2008. No time to sleep for the red-hot… SHARKS, UNDER.

Thursday, Dec. 18

Blues at Capitals: Washington cannot tell a lie at home (11-1-1) and the Blues graying and weak on road (5-8-1). CAPITALS.

Leafs at Bruins: B’s (10 straight home wins) must have really tired of hearing about the success of Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. BRUINS.

Friday, Dec. 19

Blues at Oilers: Fossil-fuelers 3-1 last year (12-5 goals) in home games against Blues in games that averaged a tad over 4 GPG. OILERS, UNDER.

Hawks at Flames: There were only 8 goals in two Saddledome skates between these two clubs last year. UNDER.

Saturday, Dec. 20

Hurricanes at Bruins: B’s, netminder Thomas bombastic in Beantown and fans starting to expect wins, BRUINS.

Kings at Red Wings: Dr. Seuss’s favorite match-up as well as one of mine also. RED WINGS.

Leafs at Penguins: Toronto perennial underachievers and when the Penguins get two hat tricks in one game (last Thursday vs. Isles) – and neither from Malkin or Crosby – offense is obviously not a problem in the Steel City. PENGUINS.

Wild at Blues: Last two skates between these two teams saw scores of 4-0 and 1-0. UNDER. (BE$T BET$)

Hawks at Canucks: Vancouver 2-0 vs. Chicago in BCPlace Stadium LY and plays very well in its home building (7-3-1 in 2008). CANUCKS.

Sunday, Dec. 21

Bruins at Blues: Bruins just too hot, Azuls just too not. BRUINS.

Hurricanes at Canadiens: Les Habs won 3-2 in a shootout in first meeting this season. Montreal real tough at home (9-3-3). CANADIENS.

Monday, Dec. 22

Penguins at Sabres (Versus): All three meetings this season have had exactly 7 goals. OVER.

Coyotes at Oilers: Phoenix reportedly bleeding money (losing $25-30 million a year), suffering mini-identity crisis in the desert now. OILERS.

Ducks at Canucks: Vancouver 3-1 vs. Quackers on home ice LY, protecting home rink this season (7-3-1). CANUCKS.
