Why are the Saints not going to make the playoffs? Try 6-1 at home, 1-6 away and Reggie Bush making more money than the underpaid RB find Pierre Thomas.

Now, to the first week of bowls:

SATURDAY, DEC. 20

Eagle Bank Bowl

Navy +2½ at W. Forest (42½): Navy won the first meeting as a 17-point underdog at Wake, 24-17. The Deacs were 3-0 at the time and just 3-5 since. The Middies are off consecutive shutout wins. NAVY.

New Mexico Bowl

Fresno St -3 vs Colo St (60½): The Rams won their last two games to become bowl eligible so they should be motivated. Not so with Fresno State, just 2-10 against the number. COLORADO ST.

St. Petersburg Bowl

Memphis +12½ vs S. Florida (52): A virtual home game for USF, just 4-7 ATS. Also, the Bulls don’t score much (50 points in their last 4). Memphis does (133 in their last 4). MEMPHIS.

Las Vegas Bowl

BYU +3 vs Arizona (61½): The Cougars looked like world beaters after the 59-0 pillaging of UCLA, but that luster went away after TCU. Arizona nearly beat Southern Cal yet lost to New Mexico. BYU.

SUNDAY, DEC. 21

New Orleans Bowl

Troy -4 vs So. Miss (54½): The Trojans are the fashionable pick, but Southern Miss beat East Carolina, scored 70 on UAB and has covered four straight games. SO. MISS.

NFL

Ravens +4½ at Cowboys: Looks like Dallas has its swagger back. Flacco struggled vs Pittsburgh and Dallas D will be on him. ‘BOYS.

Dolphins -3½ at Chiefs: The Fish just can’t keep dodging bullets against sub-.500 teams. KC deserves to win a close one. CHIEFS.

Cards +7½ at Patriots: No way are we taking Arizona the rest of the regular season. New England has all the incentive here. PATRIOTS.

Saints -7 at Lions: Maybe Detroit does have another chance at that first win. Saints 1-6 on the road and out of the playoffs. LIONS.

Chargers +3½ at Bucs: After that miracle win at KC, I like the karma San Diego takes to Tampa. And, Garcia is ailing. CHARGERS.

Jets -4½ at Seahawks: The Bretts are 0-3 in West Coast trips so why would we want to back them here? Seneca Wallace is not chopped liver at QB for Seattle. SEAHAWKS.

Bills +5½ at Broncos: Denver has been unreliable covering spreads of this margin. Bills should have beaten the Jets last week. BILLS.

Eagles -3½ at Redskins: All Philly needs is for Westbrook to suit up. Skins are bleeding. EAGLES.
