HILTON ROARS INTO NASCAR

Thumbs up to the Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook for jump-starting the 2009 NASCAR season. Last year’s Sprint Cup driving champ Jimmie Johnson is NOT the favorite for the Feb. 15 Daytona 500.

Kyle Busch, headed to the Sprint Cup title until fading in the Chase, opened at 6-1. Next are Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., each at 7-1. Johnson is 9-1, followed by Carl Edwards (12-1), Denny Hamlin (12-1), Tony Stewart (15-1) and Mark Martin (18-1). All other drivers are listed at 20-1 and above.

RED ROCK POISED FOR NHL AT WRIGLEY

The NHL Winter Classic could get buried under the pile of New Year’s Day bowl games, but not if NBC and Red Rock Casino have a say. And, they do.

"As a Chicago native, I’m really excited to see an outdoor NHL game at Wrigley Field," said Red Rock Casino race and sports director Jason McCormick. "It’s going to be a great way to start the new year. Playing the Stanley Cup champ Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field just can’t get any better for hockey fans."

McCormick is an advocate of first period lines. Hint, hint. – Mark Mayer.
