Celtics NL at Lakers (NT)
For NBA fans, there can’t be a better Christmas present than the Celtics and Lakers. Nothing really has changed in a year as the defending champion Celtics own the best record in the East at 29-1, while the Lakers top the West at 23-5. But inside the numbers over the past month, Boston has a big betting edge.
The Celtics are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven as they try to extend a franchise-record winning streak – currently at 19. The Lakers come off their best effort in a month – a 100-87 victory at New Orleans as a 2½ underdog. But that win and cover ended a dubious streak of 10 straight losses against the number.
There was no line at this writing, but we’re looking at Boston to come in a slight favorite. The difference to us is on defense, where the Lakers have not been shutting teams down as they were at the start of the season. Meanwhile Boston’s offense is in high gear, averaging 120 points over the last three games. Kevin Garnett has the Celts focused and we think they return to LA and make another statement. CELTICS.
