UMass +7 at Houston (144)
We made the mistake of going against Massachusetts some two weeks as a 17½-point underdog at Kansas and got burned. In fact the Minutemen have made a remarkable recovery from a 1-6 start, winning their last four games including that huge upset of the defending national champion Jayhawks. UMass beat IUPUI 64-57 in its last outing. Those that doubt the quality of that acronym school from Indiana should note that IUPUI lost to nationally-ranked Arizona State by just 1.
As for Houston, the 7-2 record and 5-2 ATS mark is impressive on the surface. Inside the numbers, the Cougars haven’t really played anyone. The only notable victory was a 71-67 result to Iowa State in its last outing. The other wins came against the likes of Alcorn State, Presbyterian and Mississippi Valley State. Houston’s other setback was to unheralded Georgia Southern. To us Houston may be more style than substance and UMass has a real shot not only to cover, but to pull off the outright win. UMASS.
