May 27, 2001 7:39 PM

On Friday, Absentee Shawnee tribal officials, with hands on golden shovels, broke ground on a $50 million travel plaza-casino package in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The ceremony attracted 200, many prospective players in the undertaking. It will be located off Interstate-40.

The 240,000 square foot facility will have 12 blackjack tables, 1,500 electronic skill games and an off-track betting area. There will be 24 fueling lanes for trucks and 12 lanes for cars.

The ground breaking comes three weeks before the Absentee Shawnee’s general election.
