Casino operator MGM MIRAGE Inc. is beginning to collect applications for more than 12,000 jobs at its CityCenter project on the Las Vegas Strip.

A job Web site was launched Monday, with some positions to begin in September and others to be added when the $9.2 billion complex is scheduled to be fully open in December.

Officials call CityCenter the most expensive private commercial development in U.S. history. It includes a casino, luxury hotels, condominiums and retail.

MGM MIRAGE says half the new jobs will probably be filled by current employees at other casino-resorts or former employees who have been recently laid off.

The company says it plans to provide those without computers access to the online applications through several community organizations.
