# 12-way five-spot has many ‘ways’ to collect

The twelve-way five is one of my favorite tickets of all time. I’ve had a lot of luck with it. To mark it, start with 16 spots, circling three groups of three, three groups of two, and one king. (In a sense, this is simply a nine way five with a king added to it.) The two spot groups are the key to this ticket. Each two spot group figures into five of the five spot ways, almost 42% of the ways on the ticket, while each three spot group and the king figure into three of the ways. So, if you get a good hit on the deuces, you stand a good chance of doing well on the fives. Sometimes I cover the 2-2-2 six spot on a different ticket, just for "insurance" in case it comes up solid. (If all three deuces come up solid without the king, you might end up with just three four out of fives.) I usually play this ticket at a special rate if available, where a solid five may pay in the range of about \$500 at .50 cents per way, or \$1,000 at a dollar per way.

Here is a breakout of the five spot ways:

3-2, nine way five,

2-2-1, three way five.

For those of you who are interested in the other ways on the ticket, the total ways are: one way 16, one way 15, three way 14, six way 13, six way 12, 12 way 11, 13 way 10, 13 way nine, 18 way eight, 13 way seven, 13 way six, 12 way five, six way four, six way three, three way two and one way one, for a total of 127 ways. Of these ways, the 13 way 10 and the 13 way seven look the most attractive to me, as they both compliment the 12 way five, and at a dime per way would produce a nice little \$2.50 ticket.

There are 400 possible different catches on the ticket, with the most common being 1-1-0-1-0-0-0, about once every 15.82 games. The most common solid five is the 3-1-0-2-1-0-0 catch at about 1245.9 for one.

Here are the total frequencies and odds for one for five spot catches on the ticket:
