SANTA ANITA

MARK S THE COOLER: Was trying the grass for the first time and took to it like a horse that may be going places. He took back, came out on the second turn and made a big four-wide move into the stretch. Cooler just powered by his foes under a hand ride. Look for the move up and another score.

HERR MOZART: Was in from Aqueduct for trainer Bob Baffert. He had the misfortune of running against The Cooler above. Mozart would have won on any other day, but had to settle for the place money. He did finish two lengths clear of the rest in the field. Will be single material in his next start going long on the grass.

WADDUP G: Took the drop from straight maiden to this 32K maiden claimer and just routed this group. Making a five-wide move surging to the front and just powered down the lane. This girl was claimed by John Sadler and has the looks of a real good pickup for his main clients Gary and Cecil Barber.

MISS SILVER BROOK: Won in game fashion for hot trainer Julio Canani at first asking and may be headed to the turf course. If so, look for another big effort.

FIGEAC: Was just being hammered at the windows, but if you saw this guy going to the post you would just run to the window and bet against him. He was just a mess, running to his looks, stopping big time and finishing next to last. This guy has some talent and may rebound, but keep an eye out for how he looks before making a bet.

NIMAS PAD: Ran another big-time race while coming five wide and winning all on his own. This guy can move up big time and repeat.

COROANS AT DELMAR: Could not run down the odds-on winner, but made a strong rally to pick up the place money. He was red-tagged by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who is gold first off the claim. He will have this guy spotted for action. $$$$$

GOOD REQUEST: Was a lot of folks’ single in the Pick Six with the carryover. He looked to have these over a barrel with Gomez in the irons, but not to be. Gomez, who usually makes his patented wide move when on the best horse, got this guy stuck down on the rail with no place to go in what was an amazing poor ride. He will win next time out if there is no Pick Six carryover!

HAUGHTY TOPPERF: First-time starter showed keen early foot while forcing the pace. Then the jock took hold and dropped him back. He rallied from between horses and finished willingly for the place. This one looked great on the track and will be very hard to beat in second start. $$$$$

BOX OFFICE QUEEN: Just could not get to the lone speed while trying the grass for the first time. She ran her heart out for the place and will be one to dig deep. Bet on her if put back on the main. $$$

DEVOTED MAGIC: Was making his first start off the Hollendorfer claim and just inhaled them at the top of the stretch. Won going away by almost seven lengths in a scary performance.

DRAFT CHOICE: Need to lead type could not make the front end. Still ran a game race and finished third by less than a length. If able to clear early next time out he will be long gone.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

MARK OF A PIRATE: Had been running fine down south, but just could not get the job done. Was shipped in here and dropped to the bottom of the maiden claiming ranks. He responded with a rousing win and may have found a home at the Gate.

MI CORREDORA: Looked like something good to eat shipping in from Calder for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. She destroyed this bunch of girls and somehow paid $10.20. You won’t see that price next time, but you will see her in the winner’s circle again. $$$$$
