Loyola, Md +3 at Fairfield (133)
Since this is the Super Bowl, think of Loyola as the Arizona Cardinals. The Greyhounds started the season 2-7 and fell to 5-12 before a midseason renaissance. Loyola has won six straight games in the Metro Atlantic Conference, including a 4-1 run against the spread.
Fairfield, also in the Metro Atlantic, has dropped three of its last four due in part by a rash of injuries. Two starters are out for the season, another is questionable for the Loyola game with mono and a fourth player is sitting out a suspension. To the Stags’ credit, their bench carried them to a win over Marist after trailing by 17 points. That said, Marist is just 7-16 on the season.
Loyola will be focused for this one, having lost the earlier meeting with Fairfield at home 63-60. Add the revenge factor for a team playing its best basketball against an opponent not at full strength and we see a shot for an upset. LOYOLA.
