Miami, FL +14 at Duke (139½)
The line shows just how much respect oddsmakers have for Duke. The Blue Devils come off their lowest scoring effort in 13 years during a 74-47 loss at Clemson. The same night, Miami posted one of the shockers of the season with a 27-point beatdown of Wake Forest. And yet we have this 14-point line. Here’s why.
Duke has blown out its opponents the game following each of its two previous losses – winning by 25 against Virginia and 43 over outclassed UNC-Asheville. Miami is just 1-3 on the road in the ACC both straight up and against the spread. The Hurricanes did upset Boston College, but lost to bottom half teams NC State and Maryland. The same Maryland bunch Duke defeated by 41 points. You can bet Coach K ran his players into the ground in practice after the Clemson debacle.
Duke does have its showdown with North Carolina next, but that’s eight days away so there shouldn’t be any looking ahead. Only looking to payback. DUKE.
