NFL Pro Bowl (NBC-TV)
1:30 p.m. at Honolulu, Hawaii
NFC -2½ vs AFC (65)
The AFC has 2005 Pro Bowl MVP Peyton Manning starting against the NFC, led by last year’s MVP Adrian Peterson. Three of the last four Pro Bowls have totaled 65 points or less, which is the current projected total here. And, the AFC has won the last nine times a Pro Bowl was played in an odd year, as in ’09. All that said, does anyone really care about this "exhibition?" Hopefully a few players will so we can earn a winning ticket.
As for as storylines, you have the Manning brothers on opposite sides, a Steelers-Cardinals rematch (Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu, James Harrison, James Farrior on defense vs Arizona’s Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Bolden on offense) and this odd year history deal. But what this game could come down to is the depth at quarterback. And, we like the NFC trio of Warner, Eli Manning and Drew Brees over the AFC’s Manning, Jay Cutler and Kerry Collins. The NFC also has great receivers in Fitzgerald, Bolden and Carolina’s Steve Smith. And the running game is strong with Peterson, Michael Turner and Clinton Portis. Also, there are seven New York Giants on the NFC roster. Maybe motivation for not repeating as Super Bowl champs.
We’re going against history in the final Pro Bowl in Hawaii for awhile, with the game moving to Miami next year the week before the Super Bowl. NFC.
