Headliners like Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington and Jim Furyk are at the top of the oddsboard for this week’s PGA Tour event at Pebble Beach, but the real threats to win could come from within the field.
Mickelson, who missed the cut two weeks ago at Scottsdale, is co-favorite with Vijay Singh at 12-1 on the Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook board. Harrington, the defending British Open and PGA champ, is at 15-1 along with past U.S. Open champ Furyk. Former Masters winner Mike Weir is at 20-1.
But after the top five is where it gets interesting for bettors. The AT&T National Pro-Am has drawn five of the top seven leaders in the FedEx Cup points race, including the Tour’s leading money winner Kenny Perry (20-1). Also entered is last week’s Buick Invitational winner Nick Watney (40-1)(pictured). Perry is third in the Fed Cup standings, while Watney moved into second behind Zach Johnson with the Buick win.
Along with Weir and Perry at 20-1 is David Toms, who ranks seventh in the FedEx Cup. Other contenders in the A&T off to hot starts this season are Charley Hoffman (sixth in the FedEx Cup), Pat Perez (fifth) and Kevin Na (12th). Hoffman and Perez are each 40-1, while Na is 50-1.
Other notables in the field are K.J. Choi (25-1), Davis Love III (25-1), Retief Goosen (30-1) and USA Ryder Cup member Hunter Mahan (30-1). Former UNLV golfer Ryan Moore is at 80-1, while David Duval is a hefty 250-1. Duval was the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world prior to Tiger Woods, but has seen his career nosedive the last few years.
The top individual matchup on the Hilton board is Harrington against Mickelson with Phil a -130 favorite. The buyback on Padraig is +110. To be a winning ticket, the golfer has to make the 36-hole cut.
