Kansas City's four riverboat casinos have recorded their fifth-best monthly take in revenue and a sharp rise in admissions.
The Missouri Gaming Commission said Tuesday that the casinos' combined take in January was just over $62 million from 6.3 percent more people than the same month in 2007. The top three revenue months are March 2007, 2008 and 2006, respectively. The December 2006 take was fourth.
The difference almost certainly was Missouri voters' repeal last fall of loss limits.
Since repeal took effect Nov. 7, 11 of Missouri's 12 casinos have handled their largest monthly tally of table game wagers since mid-2008. Seven of the 12 casinos have seen steady growth in slot machine bets.
Gambling revenues in neighboring Iowa slipped 2.1 percent while Illinois' reportedly plunged a dramatic 9 percent.
