LEAVIN IN A LIMO: Had no shot at beating the odds-on winner, but ran a very game race. Finished second, two lengths better than the place horse. This guy should pop very soon.
ITSGOODLOOKNGRAY: Looked good in this spot going 6½ furlongs on the downhill turf course, but the race took off the grass, Gray ran better than his fourth place finish. He was claimed for $62,500 by a sharp outfit that makes few mistakes. You can bet that this guy will be placed for action in his next start. $$$$$
RED HOT CHARLOTTE: First-time starter showed good early speed stalking the pace. She came four wide into the stretch and finished a game fourth. Look for this girl to improve in next start for her new connections. $$$
CATO MAJOR: Just could not run down the lone speed, but finished best of the rest. Looks to be sitting on a huge effort.
DOMESTIC BREW: First-time starter was far back early and wide. He shifted in on the turn, but came out again for room. Made a big late rally as he found his best stride late.
BIRDIE BIRDIE: Hadn’t been seen since Del Mar of last year. He showed up in this spot for some very sharp connections and took a lot of cash at the windows. Birdie just did not fire, but maybe didn’t like this layout. We will give her a big shot in next start at what will be a good price.
FINE TIME TO LEAVE: Hesitated and lagged last for a half mile. She then went up to chase on the inside, split horses and came on for the show. She lost the whole enchilada by less than two lengths.
A TACO SHORT/HUMANE: Two first-time starters that ran second and third respectively last time. I would love to see them return in the same race, but both look to have a big say in next start.
BROUGHT IT: A reclaim by trainer Frank Monteleone, who lost this mare one race back. He must really like her as the connections put up a lot more than they got when she was claimed.
GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
MADE FOR MAGIC: Was bumped and squeezed off at the start. She wanted to be let loose, but was stuck behind the leaders. Magic advanced on the second turn, came wide and ran them down in a big time performance. $$$$$
STORM SURGE: Came from last to first in the stretch and won for fun. This guy looks like a repeater.
SEEINGISBELIEVING: Prompted the speed until being carried five wide into the stretch. The front runner got away, but he held his ground while some four lengths clear of the rest.
YOU’RE MY BOY BLUE: Was making a big move, but was checked hard while waiting for an opening to develop. Once he found room it was too late. Next time should give a clean trip for his new connections.
SAN FRAN: Stumbled at the start, was far back and in another galaxy. He made a six wide move on the second turn, but just could not sustain his rally.
