On the Cheap by H Scot Krause | Jerry’s Nugget Casino has "beefed up" the food specials in the Race & Sports Book! Watching the Sunday races just got better there. Jerry’s Nugget is now featuring Track Sandwiches every Sunday. These prime carved sandwiches are just like food you’d get at the racetrack – hand carved, juicy, fresh and tasty. These sandwiches are available free to good race bettors. All other patrons can purchase for $3 each.

The carving station opens at 12:30 p.m. at Jerry’s. Mark Dufty, the Casino’s Race and Sports Book Director said, "We’ve had our carving station open for a couple of Sundays now and the guests are really eating it up, so to speak. But all joking aside, you can’t get a better value than these great sandwiches. It really brings the track experience to our book."

Sandwich selections range from hand carved Prime Rib, Roasted Breast of Turkey and BBQ Beef Brisket.

The Courtyard Grill and Buffet at Fitzgeralds downtown now offers a "Build Your Own Burger Bar" between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. And the Vue Bar features "Happy Hour" every Friday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. with drink and appetizer specials.

Red Rock Lanes Bowling Center at Red Rock Resort is starting an Official NASCAR Members Club Bowling League beginning Monday, January 28. The cost is $15 per person per week and includes a meeting at 5:30 p.m. prior to bowling with your team of four, which can be any combination, males or females.

Victory’s Café at the Cannery Casino Hotel is serving roasted short ribs with mashed potatoes and vegetables as a special this month for $10.99 plus tax. The meal includes your choice of soup or salad too.

Sister casino, The Rampart, in Summerlin is serving a semi-boneless Half Roast Chicken dinner special in its Promenade Café during January for just $7.99. The dinner is served with mashed potatoes, pan gravy and honey glazed carrots. J.C. Wooloughan’s, a neighborhood style Irish Pub located inside the casino, features Dueling Pianos every Friday and Saturday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with no cover charge.

Always beautiful and free to enjoy, visitors can celebrate the 2008 Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat, at Bellagio’s Conservatory through March 15. The unique exhibit, featuring a botanical rodent made of living plants, zigzag bridges and a Chinese God of Wealth and Fortune, is guided by the ancient practice of Feng Shui.

Until next time…"Eat well, play well and stay well!"
