Who says a resort has to be open to hold an NCAA basketball contest? Nobody, especially the fine folks at the Fontainebleau (pictured), which is scheduled to open Nov. 1.
The resort will be hosting a two-part contest called "Fontainebleau Race and Sports Sweepstakes: Above The Rim, On The Floor, Under the Sun. "It’s our way of introducing ourselves to Las Vegas and providing a fun way to enjoy some really terrific prizes," said Chuck Esposito, race and sports director of operations. "It’s possible that the winner could be staying at the resort for free on opening night."
Anyone can enter simply by registering on the Internet website www.fontainebleau.com and just filling out basic information. The sign up dates are from now to April 8, when the drawing will be held to choose a winner. As for the March Madness portion of the "Above The Rim," each entrant will be asked to write in which team will win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Pittsburgh, Connecticut, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke have all been ranked No. 1 at some time during the season.
The prize package comes in two parts when sponsors draw the winning ticket April 8:
• The winner will receive round trip airfare for two to Las Vegas, 4 days and 3 nights at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, $250 credit for dining at the resort’s restaurants, spa treatment for two at Lapis along with round trip airport transportation.
• Should that winning ticket also include the correct national champion selection, the additional prizes includes round trip airfare for two to Miami, two tickets to the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl at Dolphin Stadium, 3 days, 2 nights at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, $250 restaurant credit along with round trip transportation to the airport.
"The carrot to our promotion is to pick the NCAA winner," Esposito said. "It’s an exciting way to kick off things at the Fontainebleau and the only chance for someone to win a trip to the two properties."
The winner of the trip to the Las Vegas Fontainebleau can use the 4-day stay anytime from the Nov. 1 scheduled opening until June 30.
