Pick tourney winners for cash, prizes
Who wants to be a millionaire? It could be you if you have the skill (or luck!) in picking college basketball winners.
For the first time since its inception in 1976, GamingToday is conducting a Million Dollar March Madness contest for the upcoming NCAA men’s basketball tournament, with a top prize of $1 million.
Co-sponsored by SCA Gaming, the contest requires picking the winning teams (no point spread required) in the "March Madness" tournament, scheduled to begin on March 19.
The contest is free, easy to play and open to anyone over 21 years of age.
"We’re very fortunate to partner with SCA Gaming, the industry leader in gaming promotions and contests," said GamingToday Publisher Eileen Di Rocco. "They have the expertise to successfully pull off a contest of this magnitude, and we’re thrilled that our readers will have a chance to play for such high stakes."
Di Rocco added that, unlike other March Madness contests, which often require picking the winner in each of the tournament’s 63 games to take the top prize, GT’s Million Dollar March Madness Contest will award $1 million, paid in a lump sum, to anyone picking 61 or more winners.
If no one picks 61 winners, there’s a bonus payout of $10,000 for anyone picking 58 to 60 winners, or a bonus of $1,000 for picking 55 to 57 winning teams.
In addition, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the contest. The Grand Prize is a fantasy night in the Palms’ Hardwood Suite, plus dinner for two in the resort’s upscale Nove Italian Restaurant, and bottle service at the renowned Playboy Club.
Second place will award dinner for two and a show at The Venetian/Palazzo in Las Vegas; third place is dinner for two at the award-winning Ferraro’s Restaurant in Las Vegas.
"We’re also grateful to our casino partners, the Palms and Venetian/Palazzo, as well as Ferraro’s fine restaurant, for participating in the event," Di Rocco continued. "With their contributions, they’ve upped the ante and added a Las Vegas element for the players."
The contest will be conducted here on GamingToday.com, which is currently accepting registrations. Players will be able to fill out their tournament brackets starting at 9 p.m. ET, Sunday, March 15 and continuing through noon ET, Thursday, March 19.
Once the tournament begins, players can visit the contest website to check the status of their selections, their place in the standings and even the consensus selections of the other contestants.
Points are awarded for each correct pick, with the point values increasing in the later rounds.
Cash awards will be based on the total number of winning teams selected. But the Grand Prize, as well as second and third place prizes, will be awarded to the three contestants with the highest point totals.
