SANTA ANITA

DESPERATE: Was boxed in along the rail in midstretch and bumped several times when trying to ease out for room. She could not get out, ducked back to the inside and settled for the show in one of several poor rides by Gomez last week.

SLEWS COPY: First-time starter prompted the pace and got pinballed between horses. Was forced out, but did put her head in front in deep stretch before losing a hard fought decision. She won’t be a maiden for long and the sharp Mike Mitchell claimed her for 40K. Look for him to get a quick return on that investment for the new owner.

YODELADY O: This was another that got a poor ride by Gomez. She was steadied hard when he got her in tight and just lost interest. Look for her to rebound big next time.

KELLY LEAK: Classy colt was so much the best in this mile on the grass that it was scary. He was in tight and steadied off heels midway through the second turn. Had to wait into the stretch, swung out for room and rallied under a hard ride to win easy. $$$$$

QUESTING: Sometimes winning is just being in the right place at the right time. This guy was being bet like a good thing, but a friend of mine (Frankie Eyelash) showed up at the right time and advised me to wager on Remus, who won the race by the shortest of noses and paid $27.40. Questing ran a winning race and will be very hard to beat next time out going long on the grass. $$$$$

JOYANCE: Hadn’t been seen since Del Mar in 2007. As I told my fellow horseplayer Arnie who hates playing horses away for a long time, this girl is well rested. I was just kidding but Joyance who got off at 29-1 ran like 2-1 in just missing despite trouble. She won’t be that price next time, but worth a bet.

TASTY TEMPTATION: Was pulling the jock out of the saddle and jumped the mirror reflection. Lost ground, was blocked in trying to make her move and could not recover.

OFF THE WALL: First-time starter could not run down the odds-on speed in here but ran his eyeballs out. Was second, five lengths clear of the field.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

TIERRA DEL FEUGO: Ran at the even money winner the entire race and was getting to her at the wire, but ran out of ground, She was nine lengths clear of the third place finisher and will pop next time out. Use her as a single.

TOPS IMAGE: Was making a strong move when caught behind horses and boxed. Once clear she split rivals and came three wide to finish an easy second, She will be a very good bet next time and the price should be right.

FOGGY HAZE: Hopped at the start, was far back and looked hopelessly out of the race. Made a big late rally and picked up the place money. $$$$$
