Clemson +5 at Wake Forest (153½)
Perhaps not the excitement and intrigue of today’s Duke-North Carolina showdown, but very much a quality ACC matchup. Both Clemson and Wake Forest have shared similar seasons, each starting out 16-0 and leveling off. The visiting Tigers are 23-6 and the Demon Deacons 23-5. The one difference is Wake’s 78-68 victory at Clemson in the first encounter as a 2½-point road underdog.
Wake Forest is a strong 13-1 at home and riding an overall three-game win streak. However, those wins were against Maryland, Virginia and NC State, not the elite of the league. Clemson bounced back from losses to Florida State and Virginia Tech with an 18-point victory over Virginia. Clemson usually is allergic to any game played in North Carolina, but this version of the Tigers is 10-3 on the road. They did win at Boston College and at Virginia Tech, while losing by 7 at Florida State.
There really is not much at stake here with both teams virtual locks to make the NCAA Tournament. But a win here would probably do more for Clemson’s psyche heading into the ACC tourney. CLEMSON.
