THE RIVALRY: The first round of Yankees-Red Sox begins Friday with a 3-game series at Fenway Park. Both teams have struggled early on, but the Red Sox have now won 5 straight. Sox ace Josh Beckett will be done with his 5-game suspension by then.
NOT YOUR EVERYDAY STATS: Just 14 games into the season and the Yanks have allowed 10 runs or more four times. That 4 / 13 is close to Tiger Woods’ win ratio, which is good for Tiger and bad for the Yanks. . . If you said closer Brad Lidge would blow his first save ever for the Phils the day San Diego would lead the NL West, you would have been right.
BULL$ AND BEAR$: Good job if you’re still riding the Florida Marlins. The Fish were up $730 from last week and eclipsed the $1,000 mark with still 10 days left in April. The Marlins are on pace for over $5,500, a level the Mariners saw several years back. Also hot: LA Dodgers (+690 last week) and San Diego (+440). Chilly: Atlanta (-570), Tampa Bay (-460).
