11:10 a.m. PT at Kansas City

Tigers -145 at Royals (9½)

Both teams start the day 9-8 and tied with Chicago for first in the jammed up AL Central. Armando Galarraga is off to a fine start for the Tigers, going 2-0 with an outstanding 1.96 ERA. Gallaraga threw 110 pitches in just five innings last time out against the Angels after two previous quality starts. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning last July in his last matchup with the Royals.

Sidney Ponson has been a nearly automatic over the past few years with his penchant for getting bombed. KC may be Sir Sidney’s last hurrah in the bigs considering his 0-2, 7.04 ERA start. Not the type of numbers to contain the home run bats of Detroit’s Curtis Granderson, Brandon Inge and Miguel Cabrera. The Tigers should have their way with Ponson, which explains the -145 on the road. Still, it’s not a bad pay day. TIGERS.
