BLUE JAY HOT, MARLIN PEN NOT
JASON FRASOR (Toronto): If you haven’t heard of Jason, you’re not alone. But at 31, the righty reliever is having a coming out party so far. He’s already 3-0 with 1 save, having allowed no runs and just two hits in eight plus innings. Frasor has a 6 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio thus far and may be seeing more action for the first place Blue Jays with closer B.J. Ryan on the DL.
BULLPEN (Florida): The Marlins lost six straight last week, but it was three-game sweep against the Phillies that really exposed a young bullpen. Closer Matt Lidstrom has blown 3 of 5 save chances, including a 4-0 lead in the ninth Friday. Saturday, the bullpen again blew a ninth inning lead and allowed 2 in the 10th. Sunday reliever Hayden Penn allowed 7 runs, 4 hits and walked 3 in just 1 inning. Florida is 10-7 to the over, a figure likely to rise this week. The good news is that Lidstrom has a 100 mph fastball so there is hope he can turn things around as a stopper.
