NBA playoffs (Game 1)

12:30 p.m. PT at Denver

Mavericks +6½ at Nuggets (207)

During the regular season, it was all Denver. The Nuggets won all four meetings, but three of them were decided by three points or less. And, Dallas has been a better team down the stretch as evidenced by the 5-game elimination of San Antonio. The Nuggets also had an easy time in the first round, ousting New Orleans in 5. One of the victories was that 56-point desecration in New Orleans.

The big improvement with Denver is the addition of Chauncey Billups and sudden commitment to defense. The Nuggets did not allow more than 95 points in any of the games with the Hornets. With Dallas, it’s been inspired play from Dirk Nowitzki and the ageless Jason Kidd. The Mavs lost at Denver by 2 and 3 points during the regular season, so we’ll take the 6½ expecting another tight one. MAVERICKS.
