ON THE RISE: There is a lot to like about the Minnesota Twins. Joe Mauer is back and already has 3 HR after hitting just 9 all last year. Francisco Liriano looks to be recapturing his form from a couple of years ago. And Joe Nathan is a great closer.
ON THE CLOCK: It wasn’t too long ago that Pittsburgh, Seattle, San Diego and Baltimore were either at or near the top of their respective divisions. Now they are in freefall starting the week. So who’s next? You may want to keep an eye on Toronto, Kansas City and Texas in the AL and Los Angeles without Manny in the NL. In a rarity, the Royals were road favorites twice (at Anaheim). They lost both. Keep that in mind.
WIN % AS FAVORITE: So what team is reliable as a betting favorite? For now, Toronto. The Blue Jays are 16-6 as betting favorites. And they have been reasonably priced except for prices of -220 and -250 when the ace Roy Halladay was pitching. So with Roy, the -1½ runs is suggested.
