Cubs -135 vs Padres (8½)
Usually a projected total involving Jake Peavy could be anywhere from 6½ to 7 runs on average so this is a bargain, even if it is Wrigley Field. While Peavy’s 2-4 record and 4.27 ERA are not impressive, he has pitched far better than those stats in the last two starts. Peavy blanked the Dodgers for eight innings then allowed just two runs and fanned 12 in seven innings during a loss to Arizona. So Jake isn’t exactly getting great run support.
Rich Harden is the Carl Pavano of the National League. Harden received a big contract from the Cubs, but has spent most of the time injured since coming over from Oakland. But Harden has been giving the Cubs innings so far, going at least six in four of his last five starts and compiling a 3-1 record. Harden has great stuff and has a chance to go at least 6 or 7 here. This matchup has the makings of a 1-0 or 2-1 game. UNDER 8½.
