Tourism workers in Las Vegas joined those in other cities encouraging Americans to travel more to help local economies that depend on visitors.

Hundreds of casino and resort employees gathered Tuesday at the Las Vegas Convention Center to call attention to Americans whose jobs depend on travel.

The rally was part of a national campaign organized by the U.S. Travel Association aimed at places like Beaumont, Texas, New York, Cincinnati, Phoenix and Orlando, Fla.

Las Vegas Hilton personnel supervisor Bennie Oxford says she's optimistic, even with a drop in tourism hurting the local economy. Oxford says she's got about 50 people applying for each position at the hotel.

The rallies come as a recent AP poll shows Americans plan to travel less this summer.
