MANDALAY HAS WORLD’S BEST IN DARTS

Mandalay Bay will host the 8th annual Las Vegas Desert Classic world championship darts tournament July 1-5 in the Islander Ballroom. The $300,000 event is sponsored by PartyPoker.net. Among the entrants is 4-time winner and defending champ Phil Taylor of England. Tickets are $22 per day and $55 for an all-session pass. The event begins daily at 11 a.m. with betting odds expected to be posted at Mandalay Bay for the later rounds.

ANOTHER COMEBACK: McCALL AT ORLEANS

The Mardi Gras Ballroom will host one of its biggest boxing attractions in years when former world heavyweight champion Oliver McCall comes out of retirement to fight Australian champ John Hopoate this Friday. The bout highlights an 8-fight card put together by Frank Luca and Crown Boxing. McCall is 51-10 with 36 knockouts. Hopoate is 11-2 with all 11 wins by knockout. The program starts at 7 p.m. with odds on the McCall fight due later in the week.
