NBA: West final (Game 1)
6:05 p.m. PT at Los Angeles
Nuggets +6½ at Lakers (215)
The line of 6½ is a full two points less than the 8½ posted in each of the prior two meetings at Staples Center. The Lakers won both by double digits en route to a 3-1 edge during the regular season. The totals ranged from 206 to 220 with the under cashing three times. Lakers forward Lamar Odom, commenting today on a national radio show, said they don’t want to get into an up and down game with the Nuggets.
Sounds like a plan for longer possession time and a little more defense. Denver has earned the respect of the linesmakers by going 9-0-1 against the spread during the playoffs in disposing of both New Orleans and Dallas in 5. On the other hand, LA was pushed to 7 by a Houston team playing without its two best players. While the Lakers seem able to turn the switch on and off, the lower number is an advantage for LA and keeps us off taking Denver. So we’ll look at that 215, which we don’t think will be reached in Game 1. UNDER.
